Contractor Monitors Electrical Installation on Job Site with REVLAR Waterproof Paper from Relyco

Founded in 1952, Detroit-based Motor City Electric Co. is one of the largest contractors in the nation, with an organization focused on service, capability, and quality. Electrical construction is the company’s core business, but Motor City Electric Co. also offers specialized services to meet the requirements of customers across nine divisions: automotive and process, commercial, industrial, specialty industries, service and emergency, public works and steel, technologies, utilities, and excavation.
Motor City Electric Co. is supporting the construction of a large steel mill for Dearborn, Michigan-based Severstal North America, the fourth largest steelmaker in the U.S. Construction plans for the steel mill project call for electrical setups for a vast array of sensors, instruments, and other devices across the job site, and for each setup, electricians, engineers, and others working on the project must capture information about where wires terminate within the device, as well as where wires terminate on each related electrical panel.
“Information about termination is essential for anyone working on the job site and must be closely monitored so that updated information can be shared with those in the field,” explains Brian Wendling, Motor City Electric Co. electrical engineer. “In the past, we tried to collect and share this information using traditional paper, which frequently deteriorated. Construction sites are notoriously messy and often open to the weather, and forms are handled by multiple workers; traditional paper just isn’t designed for that type of use.”
Confident that a better paper solution must be available, Wendling searched online and found Relyco. “When I contacted Relyco and explained our application, they recommended REVLAR, which met our requirements perfectly,” he says. “Relyco offered to provide samples for us to try in the field, and we were very impressed. We never even tried to contact other vendors.”
Today, Wendling and his colleagues are able to print information about wire termination and other relevant data needed by workers in the field on REVLAR. Once the form is in the field, workers can document changes easily and then return the form for tracking. “With REVLAR, forms can stand up to the wear and tear typical on a job site, including water, grease, or chemicals,” Wendling notes. “When a form is returned for tracking, new information is legible, and we can easily determine what the team in the field has done. Plus, REVLAR works well with our printers and is available in a number of colors, which is valuable because we can use a different color sheet for each task, including tracking information about termination at the panel, information about termination at the device, and reporting.”
While Wendling’s goal was finding a paper solution that could work with Motor City Electric Co.’s specific application, he also found other advantages of working with Relyco. “Obviously, it was very important that we found the right type of paper,” he says. “We’d invested in heavy-weight linen paper in the past that was costly but just couldn’t stand up to the abuse in the field. REVLAR from Relyco does the job and is priced to align with our budget. Plus, the service we received from Relyco has been very responsive.”

No Need to Laminate: Protect with Waterproof Paper Instead

Ideally suited for use anytime printed materials will be subject to frequent handling or extreme environmental conditions, waterproof, tear-resistant and durable paper, such as Relyco’s REVLAR, is laser compatible as well as impervious to grease and chemicals, and designed to withstand high and low temperature fluctuations.
Plus, REVLAR offers the image quality and printability of standard paper and can be folded, punched or die cut as needed, making it valuable for thousands of applications.
In addition its ability to withstand extreme physical and environmental conditions, one of the major advantages of REVLAR waterproof laser paper is that its durability is not dependent on lamination.
Traditional paper products are often laminated in an attempt to achieve the characteristics inherent in REVLAR, yet lamination requires an additional time-consuming step after laser printing is complete. Plus, lamination can peel, bubble or crease, compromising the material’s clean, professional appearance and allowing moisture to penetrate and damage the finished piece.
REVLAR is clearly an extremely durable, waterproof and tear-resistant product—and the time required to complete a piece with REVLAR is much less than the time needed to laminate—but for many users, particularly those concerned more with look and feel than with durability, the final decision often comes down to the cost of REVLAR vs. the cost of lamination.
This cost comparison illustrates that REVLAR is a highly cost-effective solution. This example calculates the cost to laser print on REVLAR or to laminate 100 8 1/2” x 11” signs for outdoor use.
Manufacturer of Unique Artwork Creates High-Quality, In-Store Catalog with REVLAR from Relyco

Founded in 2007 with the goal of providing visual artwork at a reasonable price, ADzif manufactures and distributes innovative, decorative mural products. An alternative to traditional interior decoration, ADzif’s wall, door, and window ornaments are manufactured from self-adhesive vinyl film that relies on a unique adhesive that makes them easy to install and remove.
From its Montreal studios, ADzif partners with local and international artists, illustrators, and photographers to offer complete collection of designs—including photographs, words and phrases, and other graphics for adults, teens, and young children. ADzif distributes its products through large retailers, smaller independent stores, and individual designers across North America, as well as through the company website.
To better serve the customers of Canadian home-improvement retailer RONA, ADzif sought to create an in-store catalog that would feature the decals and stickers sold exclusively in RONA under the brand name MUR/MUR. “RONA is a large distributor with hundreds of stores and thousands of customers,” explains Pierre Pare, co-founder of ADzif. “To highlight our product offerings effectively and to help customers visualize how they could use our products in their own homes, we needed to print our catalog on durable, heavy-weight, tear-resistant paper. After researching a number of options, I found the Relyco website. We requested samples and chose REVLAR from Relyco for our specialized catalog project.”
Since ADzif’s MUR/MUR catalog would be displayed in a specially designed rack in each store, the durability and thickness of the paper was Pare’s primary criteria in selecting REVLAR. “Our products are of high quality,” Pare says, “and we wanted a presentation that was of an equal quality. Other vendors offered durable paper, but only REVLAR from Relyco was available in the heavier weight we preferred, while being durable enough to withstand frequent use.”
It was also important that ADzif could print and assemble the catalogs in house, and Pare notes that REVLAR works smoothly with the company’s printers and that the print quality of the finished product is excellent, ensuring that customers have a clear view of the products and their applications.
“REVLAR is very easy to work with, and the finished product meets our exacting standards. The new catalogs have only been in stores for a short time, but we expect positive results,” Pare says.
